Long guard chains were first worn by women in the early 1800s. They were long and light and were draped over the shoulders and caught at the waist with a watch hook or tucked under a belt or in a watch pocket. They were used to carry watches as well as lorgnettes or vinaigrettes, which some times even included perfume oil or alcohol!

A glorious thick dog clip, signed with a double swivel to allow for optimal charm stacking. Perfect quality with a delicate yellow tonality to the gold. A stunning infinity/interlocking detail on the open perfume stations sets this chain apart, along with its superb length for a 15k chain, most of which were lost to time during the gold hike of the 1980’s.
