Set with a bright red ruby, this brooch does not need to be casted in a heart shape for us to deduce what this hot gem is meant to represent. The gem is suspended between two finely casted and feathered wings, creating a lovely textured pattern that pops next to the row of inlaid seed pearls that runs along the top of each wing. Hailing from the 1890’s, this Belle Epoque era brooch represents one of the final periods of overly ornamented and detailed design that pulled influence from European iconography and visual culture. The entire composition is crowned, literally, by a five pronged crown inlaid with ten seed pearls, bringing the grand total of pearls in the piece to 24. The winged and crowned heart is said to represent strength and a free spirit, It is dainty, weighing just over 3g and measuring 40mm, the piece also contains a hook so it may be affixed to a chain as a dangling pendant as well.
