This darling buttoner brooch, encrusted with turquoise and seed pearls, is the perfect piece to adorn the lapel of your favorite trench coat. Resembling a lily or gentian flower, two delicately curved pearled leafs spring forth from the stem, guiding the eye to the focal flower who’s petals with scalloped edges, hold seed pearls and turquoise stones, alternating between rows of the two, creating a brilliant colorful pattern against the sterling silver.

This floral buttoner brooch, a mix of the gentian and lily flower, was likely motivated by the aesthetic movement of the 1870’s which steadily pulled from nature. However, the language of flowers may also play a role in the immortalization of this piece, for the lily symbolizes innocence, purity, and rebirth, and in religious iconography, often represents the Virgin Mary, depicted in annunciation portraits as a symbol of her purity. And with the gentian influence, it also represents gratitude, per the diagram included below. A lovely brooch, bound to speak volumes for decades to come.
