Victorian 1860’s Malachite and Black Enamel Ball Brooch

Sale price Price $3,795.00 Regular price

An outstanding Victorian malachite brooch in 14ct, this exceptional work of art highlights the 19th century fascination with geology. Uncommon to find, Malachite is known for its saturated green presentation, but this brooch shows that tonality in a most uncommon colorway - a darker, most desirable shade, is here showcased both linear and swirled. I’ve never seen a smoke-like malachite specimen, which is all the more exciting as it underscored that this was not only a wearable work of decorative miniature art, it was an exceedingly rare curiosity for the doting collector of the time. Don’t miss the black enamel and San Franciscan style fret work top!
