Outstanding Napoleon III Jewel Box
Every jewelry collector knows that there is nothing better than finding a Georgian or Victorian piece of jewelry in its original box. The fitted velvet interior and brightly colored silk-lined lid, the quality leather exterior, burnished by age, the makers mark printed inside the lid. And all the wonderful shapes! Leather boxes shaped and molded around its keepsake, sometimes into quite extraordinary designs.
Victorian jewelry boxes were quite popular during the Victorian period and are a much sought-after Victorian antique jewelry item. After Victoria became Queen her choices of jewelry influenced the industry as they do today with younger princesses influencing their followers to copy their clothing lines and styles.
This box features a bracelet podium, pendant setting, padded areas, quilted top, and silk second compartment interior. Top inlaid with brass and rosewood, exterior burl and ebony detail. However, there is one small piece from the first level missing, some staining at the base, otherwise very good condition.
