Gorgeous French Sterling Double Ram Fibula Brooch

Sale price Price $2,150.00 Regular price

A ram's head might have been worn to show the patronage of, or devotion to, a deity. For a Greek or an Etruscan, a ram's-head pendant may have been an exotic, “Oriental” magical amulet, a talisman of protection, one that symbolized the power or knowledge of Egypt, the Punic world, or the Near East.

Likely custom commissioned and created at the highest level of craftsmanship, this Etruscan revival example is incised Paris, with the original owner's initials. Often seen as a symbol of homosexuality as well, a pair of ram heads threaten to lock horns with a long pin intersecting their negative space.
