Foiled Pink Paste Fringed Riviere

A fringe necklace can be described as a series of pendant elements that dangle from links or a cord that encircles the neck. The origin of the fringe necklace is the Egyptian broad collar ('wesekh') which made its debut around the third millennium B.C. As popular as fringe necklaces were in the early days of civilization they receded from fashion until rediscovered in the late 19th century as archaeologists unearthed these ancient civilizations. The fringe necklace took Europe by storm and necklaces in the archaeological revival style soon segued to fringe necklaces featuring diamonds, pearls, and even paste.

Foil backing (or foiling) is a gemstone surface enhancement technique where a thin sheet of metal is placed behind the gemstone in order to reflect more light, and/or color, back into the stone and then towards the viewer. This gorgeous example features foiled pink paste in an attractive sterling silver body. Almost as beautiful as the necklace itself, the closed-cup backing on this sterling example is worth noting. A vibrant bubblegum pink with teardrop finishes on the bottom of the fringe, this riviere sits beautifully with her original clasp and I'm sure even more so around your neck!
