High Relief Italian Lava Cameo Earrings in 14k

Sale price Price $2,800.00 Regular price

Despite there being cherub and Cupid jewelry dotted throughout history, putti depictions were prolific in the Georgian and Victorian eras. During these times, jewelry was often sentimental and full of coded imagery; cherubs were a well loved symbol to use as shorthand for anything to do with love.

Originally limited to profane passions in symbolism, putti came to represent the sacred cherub, and in Baroque art, putti came to represent the omnipresence of God.

These lovely earrings are sisters, not twins. One earring features a cameo of a cherub holding a wineskin, while the other depicts another cherub holding a windpipe. Set with Etruscan Revival, original, Victorian tops, this pair is in excellent shape and would make a statement in any look or collection!
