18ct Memorial Band Honoring Richard Smith 1869
An exceptional mid 19th century memorial ring with a very rare love knot motif on spaces throughout, this stunning Victorian 18ct example has the most beautiful text and inscription. Commemorating the passing of Richard Smith in 1869, the sentiment of this ring is both haunting and sweet; the love knot likely indicates that the ring was made for his life partner left behind. As the enamel is in black, we can be assured he was married.
There is enamel loss as is to be expected on 19th century examples like this that have been worn, loved and time honored.
